Number of Job Seekers Lowest in 8 Years
Budapest, October 16 (MTI) – The number of Hungary’s job seekers has reached a record low in the past eight years, with 380,200 people looking for a position in September, the daily Magyar Nemzet reported citing figures from the Labour Office (NMH) today.
The figure was down by 20 percent from September last year, the paper said. In May-July this year the figure was 401,500, representing 8.7 percent of the economically active population, and 5.5 percent of those in employment age (15-74 years).
Most of those looking for jobs (205,000) have had secondary education, while 152,000 have primary education only, and 22,000 have a higher education degree. Fourteen percent of them are career starters; 63,800 of them were younger than 25 in September, and 97,500 were over 50.
A total 162,000 positions were advertised in September, 80,000 of which have remained vacant, the paper said.
