Chairwoman of Vietnamese national assembly visits Hungary

Budapest, April 10 (MTI) – Prime Minister Viktor Orbán discussed bilateral economic ties with Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in Parliament on Monday, the prime minister’s press chief said.

The two leaders agreed that Hungarian-Vietnamese trade was expanding dynamically, which they said could be further boosted by a recently signed loan agreement between the two countries. Under the agreement, Hungarian companies will implement major investments in Vietnam in the areas of electronic public administration, water management and public health infrastructure, Bertalan Havasi said.

The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

The Hungarian side reassured their Vietnamese partners of Hungary’s support for the swiftest possible implementation of a free trade agreement between the European Union and Vietnam.

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan invited Orbán for an official visit to Vietnam in the autumn.

House Speaker: Vietnam strategic partner in SE Asia

Vietnam is Hungary’s strategic partner in southeast Asia, House Speaker László Kövér said on Monday after meeting Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Chairperson of the National Assembly, in Budapest.

Hungary respects and appreciates the scope of economic and social development Vietnam has undergone since the end of the Vietnam War in the mid-1970s, Kövér told a press briefing. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan praised the “excellent relationship and multifaceted cooperation” between the two countries.

The two parliaments will hold a seminar on legislation in Budapest on Tuesday, Kövér said. The event will continue in Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan added, with a session on agriculture, food safety and water management.
