World congress of families ends with closing statement
Budapest (MTI) – The 11th world congress of families, organised within the framework of the Budapest Family Summit on Friday and Saturday, ended with the adoption of a closing statement expressing commitment to the idea of the natural family.
The closing statement declares that family is a “natural and fundamental unit of society”, “part of the created world”, a “genuine resource of freedom” and the “basis for a successful democracy”.
The declaration calls on all peoples and nations to forge alliances with each other in the interests of families.
Orsolya Pacsay-Tomassich, deputy state secretary for international and EU affairs at the ministry of human resources, said in her closing address that the commitment of Hungary’s government to families was clearly shown by the fact that currently 4.6 percent of the country’s GDP is spent on supporting families, adding that this ratio would increase further in the future.
Brian Brown, President of the World Congress of Families, emphasised the importance of looking at what can be done in order to make families the centre of communities and nations.
On Sunday, the last day of the Budapest Family Summit, a family festival will be held on Andrássy Avenue and Heroes’ Square.
