Hungarian wines, dishes showcased at Berlin gourmet event
Berlin (MTI) – Hungarian wines and dishes have been in the focus of the 4th annual gourmet event dubbed Hungarian Harvest at the embassy in Berlin.
As part of the Hungarian Harvest, a gala dinner featured 700 guests including high-ranking politicians, diplomats and representatives of economic and social organisations who were served wines from the Villany region, alongside goose, duck, game and Mangalitza pork dishes.
In addition to deepening diplomatic-political ties and building Hungary’s image, the event also serves to improve opportunities for Hungarian products to reach the market, organiser Nandor Beki, an agrarian diplomat, told MTI. The dinner helps develop links with company managers who are responsible for food supplies to hundreds of shops, he added.
During two days, the Hungarian embassy hosted seminars, product presentations and business meetings, and leading German sommelier Billy Wagner presented Hungarian wines to more than 120 German traders and wine and gastronomy experts.
Head of the Hungarian national association of Mangalitza breeders Peter Toth told MTI that thanks to the Hungarian Harvest, one of Berlin’s most popular restaurants — where regulars include George Clooney and Matt Damon — now also serves dishes made from the traditional breed.
