Takata’s Miskolc plant to continue production uninterrupted
Japanese auto parts maker Takata on Monday said that its plant in Miskolc, in northeastern Hungary, would continue production without interruption despite the company having filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States and Japan.
Takata Safety Systems Hungary said in a statement that it would not file for bankruptcy in Europe and that its Miskolc plant was getting ready to expand capacity.
The company said its subsidiaries in Japan, Asia, the US, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) are all independent legal entities.
Takata said its liabilities resulting from almost a decade of recalls related to faulty airbag inflators had impacted its businesses in the US and Japan, while its branches in other parts of the world remained profitable.
It said it continues to receive a high number of orders in the EMEA area, is able to meet payment obligations towards its suppliers and employers and fulfil orders without delay.
Takata said it plans to expand its staff of 1,400 at its Miskolc plant by 200 over the coming months.
