Orbán condemns vandalisation of Serbian cemetery

Viktor Orbán, Hungary’s prime minister, has condemned the vandalisation of graves in the Serbian cemetery in Budakalász, north of Budapest, the prime minister’s press chief said.

“Every possible effort should be made to ensure that this unacceptable act does not cast a shadow on Hungarian-Serbian friendship or the historic improvement in bilateral ties over the past few years,” Bertalan Havasi quoted Orbán as saying.

The prime minister has instructed the interior minister, Sándor Pintér, to focus on investigating the incident, tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice, he added.

As we wrote, fifteen graves were damaged in the early hours of last Thursday. Monuments and stone vases were knocked down, crypts opened and their covers smashed.
