Transparency’s corruption index unchanged for Hungary

Berlin, December 3 (MTI) – Hungary stayed in 47th place on a list of 175 countries in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index 2014.

In a statement published in Berlin on Wednesday, TI said “corruption is a problem for all economies, requiring leading financial centres in the EU and US to act together with fast-growing economies to stop the corrupt from getting away with it.”

The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be. A country or territory’s score indicates the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

Hungary’s 2014 score is 54, unchanged from last year. On top of the 2014 list is Denmark with a score of 92 and at the end is Somalia with a score of 8.

“Countries at the bottom need to adopt radical anti-corruption measures in favour of their people. Countries at the top of the index should make sure they don’t export corrupt practices to underdeveloped countries,” said Jose Ugaz, the chair of Transparency International.
