Leftist DK slams PM for ‘petty revenge’ on adversaries

The leftist opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) has called on the prime minister not to use public funds to finance his “petty revenge campaign” against his “former allies” billionaire George Soros and businessman Lajos Simicska.

DK deputy leader László Varju told a press conference on Monday that “the government has covered the country with billboards once again”, this time showing an image of Soros. Varju said it was “insane” that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was using taxpayers’ money to “finance his dispute with his enemy of the moment”, and insisted that the government had spent a total 16.5 billion forints (EUR 53.4m) on similar billboards since last November.

The ruling Fidesz party said in response that the left wing is again protecting Soros’s interests.

Soros is the world’s most influential billionaire and he is using Brussels, the Soros organisations and the Hungarian left to achieve his plan to flood Europe with migrants, dismantle borders and eliminate Hungary’s border protection, Fidesz said in a statement.

This current instance shows that the Hungarian left “is immediately jumping to help when it is about protecting Soros’s interests”, the party said.
