Ruling parties submit proposal on Sunday wage premium
Budapest, December 16 (MTI) – Employees in retail trade should be entitled to a double wage on Sundays, according to a bill submitted by ruling party lawmakers on Tuesday.
The proposal tabled by Kristof Szatmary of Fidesz and Peter Harrach of the Christian Democrats states that employees in retail trade are entitled to a 100 percent wage premium for Sunday work, except for those working in catering, leisure services and sales agents.
The proposed amendment to the labour code also stipulates that employees must not be expected to work on Sunday more than twice in a calendar month.
According to the justification to the amendment, the measures are in line with the law on restrictions to Sunday shopping.
The amendment, if approved, will enter force on April 1, 2015.
