Hungary farm sector output continues to grow in 2014
Budapest (MTI) – The output of Hungary’s farm sector this year could exceed last year’s 2.3 trillion forints (EUR 7.3bn), Agriculture Minister Sandor Fazekas told MTI in a year-end interview.
Farm sector output could contribute 0.4-0.5 percentage point to the country’s GDP growth, Fazekas said.
He said farmers had put a difficult year behind them, but producers and processors had stood their ground. The sector is turning out higher quality products in greater quantity, and demand for these products is growing both at home and abroad, he added.
Fazekas noted that the percentage of domestically produced food consumed in Hungary had risen from 70 percent to 75 percent in the recent period.
