Film director Janos Zsombolyai dies at 75
Budapest, January 5 (MTI) – Veteran film director and cinematographer Janos Zsombolyai, whose credits included the 1969 political satire The Witness and the concert film Queen: Hungarian Rhapsody – Live in Budapest ’86, has died, his family said on Monday.
Zsombolyai graduated from the Budapest film academy as a cinematographer in 1961 and taught there for several decades. He headed the film department before retiring in 2004.
He directed such Hungarian cult films as 1975’s The Kangaroo and 1980’s Duty-Free Marriage.
His film Don’t Lean out of the Window was the winner of the 1978 Grand Prix at the Montreal Filmfest.
