Munkacsy Exhibition Opened in Beijing

Beijing (MTI) – Professionals –  have been present on the opening day of the Beijing Painter Academy – could be pleased with the works of Mihaly Munkacsy in Beijing.

Three dozen Munkacsy pictures can be seen in the exhibition presenting the turn of the 18-19th century Hungarian art, by courtesy of the Hungarian National Gallery and Imre Pakh private collector. Next weeks’ visitors can learn about the works of Laszlo Paal, Pal Szinyei Merse, Sandor Bihari and Geza Meszoly and Janos Vaszary as well. There is also Hans Temple’s Munkacsy-portrait from 1887. In the exhibition space located on two levels, a total of almost 100 Hungarian paintings offer a unique atmosphere in Chinese environment.

In the speeches, in addition to the appreciation of the art of Munkacsy there was much discussed about innovative Hungary and intensified bilateral cultural relations as well. Bence Retvari recalled that 104 Hungarian-related cultural events were organized in Beijing last year. He stressed Hungary is proud of what she has and is pleased to present it, while is receiving and happy to get acquainted and provides space to the presentation of other nations’ cultures. He stated that directly before the exhibition, Laszlo Baan signed an agreement with the President of the Painter Academy, Wang Ming about taking the works of the famous Chinese painter, Bai Chi to Hungary, MTI says.

The art of the painter, who died at the age of 93 in Beijing in 1957, will be presented in the context of large-scale exhibition. View of its size and the presented works, this will be his largest foreign debut so far.

According to MTI, many attendees spoke, there were Chin Sang-ji veteran oil painter, member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People’s Front, Chen Tung, chairman of Beijing’s cultural committee, Chan Tsien-Chun honorary president of the Chinese Oil Painting Company, but leaders of the Chinese fine art and the national museum were also there. For this occasion, Imre Pakh traveled to Beijing too. He was represented with Steve Guoval, President of Morgan Star, which company sponsored the Shanghai and Beijing exhibitions. As the exhibition’s final act, Alex Szilasi pianist played the work of Ferenc Liszt in the Academy’s main hall, with great success.
