Hungarian FM: Catalan independence declaration Spain’s internal affair
“The Hungarian Government views the declaration of Catalonian independence as a matter of Spanish internal affairs”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Saturday.
Mr. Szijjártó discussed the situation in Spain following the declaration of Catalonia’s independence with Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski by telephone on Saturday morning.
The Minister told MTI that the Hungarian Government views
the issue as a matter of Spanish internal affairs and hopes that the situation is resolved as soon as possible in accordance with Spain’s constitutional regulations.
On Friday in Barcelona, the independence parties of Catalonia’s Parliament voted in favour of a proposal aimed at establishing an independent “Republic of Catalonia”, following which in the evening the Spanish Government announced the dissolution of the Catalonian Government and legislature, and that
it will be calling early parliamentary elections in Catalonia on 21 December.
