President Ader discusses gas pipeline with Turkish PM
Ankara, March 12 (MTI) – President Janos Ader on Thursday urged Turkey’s prime minister to hurry up with a financing plan for a proposed gas pipeline to Hungary via Greece, Macedonia and Serbia
At talks with Ahmet Davutoglu, Ader noted that alternative proposals to the Turkish Stream pipeline, which is planned to carry Russian gas, were being considered by the European Commission.
Ader, who is on a four-day official visit to Turkey, told journalists that the talks touched on nuclear energy, and he offered to share Hungary’s expertise in fulfilling Turkey’s “extremely ambitious” nuclear energy programme.
Ader also thanked Turkey for the “care and attention” it paid to Hungarian monuments in that country. He said that “Hungary also has responsibilities in that respect” and promised that the long-delayed renovation of Turkish monuments in Hungary would be completed.
Ader laid wreaths of commemoration at a monument to Hungary’s 1848-49 leader Lajos Kossuth, who spent two years of exile in Turkey.
Later in the day, Ader will meet his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
