Liza, the Fox-Fairy conquers Brussels film festival
Budapest (MTI) – Liza, the Fox-Fairy won the 7th Orbit Award at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, Europe’s leading international genre film festival, the Hungarian Film Union told MTI.
The 33rd Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) jury and the Belgian audience were mesmerized by the black comedy about Liza, a nurse who is convinced that she has become a fox-fairy, a demon from Japanese mythology. Legend has it that men who fall in love with a fox-fairy die soon afterwards. In addition to placing first in its category, Liza scooped up the Pegasus Award, the audience prize.
Karoly Ujj-Meszaros’s first feature film won the grand prize at Portugal’s 2015 Fantasporto Film Festival, as well as the prize for best visual effects. The picture was also recently awarded the Silver Melies award for the best European fantastic film at the thirty-first Imagine Film Festival in Amsterdam.
Makers of the film starring Monika Balsai, Szabolcs Bede-Fazekas and David Sakurai are now hoping to conquer film festivals in the United Kingdom, Spain and Brazil.
