Croatian, Polish ambassadors welcome minority culture protection in Hungary

Budapest, May 10 (MTI) – Croatian Ambassador Gordan Grlic Radman and Polish Ambassador Roman Kowalski on Sunday welcomed efforts Hungary has made to preserve the cultural heritage of its minorities.

Hungary’s public media focuses on national and ethnic minorities throughout the day, presenting their culture and traditions.

The two ambassadors visited Atany, a village known internationally of its folk culture in north-eastern Hungary that houses the Star Village project.

Star Village is composed of guests houses presenting the traditions of all national minorities in Hungary. Visitors can find accommodation and live according to 19th-century folk traditions in the houses located in streets that run in all directions forming arms of a star from the central square.

Ambassador Radman told public news channel M1 that the village project was very important in presenting Croatian cultural heritage and traditions to visitors including the youth.

Ambassador Kowalski told the channel that Hungary has had a minority law in place for 20 years and welcomed the representation ensured to minority self-governments. He welcomed the Star Village project and said visits should be organised primarily for students to the site.
