Hungarians feature in festivals in New York City
Budapest, June 4 (MTI) – Hungarian startups and artists have presented themselves ahead of several festivals to be held in New York next week, the co-producing Hungarian Balassi Institute said.
The two-week series of events starting on June 8, dubbed “Pop-Up Budapest”, will bring to New York contemporary Hungarian culture through the prism of music, film and startups, the institute said in a statement.
Hungary will be guest of honour at the innovation and creative industry fair Northside Festival, putting films by Adam Csaszi and Gabor Reisz onto its programme as well as shorts by students of the Hungarian Moholy-Nagy Arts University. A concert by Irie Maffia is on the programme while startups showcase themselves at the innovation expo.
Next the Chelsea Music Festival, featuring classical and crossover styles, will bring to stage the ethno-jazz band Santa Diver led by violinist-singer Luca Kezdy, and a trio by Laszlo Goz, Miklos Lukacs and Gyorgy Kurtag jr, among others.
Kulturfest NYC, a summer Jewish festival, will feature a performance by the Glass House Orchestra, a grouping created for the occasion from members of the world-renowned Muzsikas folk band and others.
The events will finish off with a half-day mini-festival for Hungarians in New York on June 20, the statement said.
