Government to take over Budapest transport company debt
Budapest, June 18 (MTI) – The government will take over 52.3 billion forints (EUR 168m) of Budapest public transport company’s (BKV) debt from the municipality of Budapest, the government office chief said on Thursday.
The deal also covers a guarantee of up to 60 billion forints related to the upgrade of the capital’s M3 metro line, Janos Lazar told a regular press conference, announcing decision made at the cabinet meeting on projects in Budapest.
A decision was made about allocations for BKV over the next years, he said. Accordingly, BKV will receive 40 billion forints in 2016, 37 billion in 2017 and 33 billion in 2018, Lazar said.
Meanwhile, the government has asked Budapest Mayor Istvan Tarlos to transfer the Dagaly swimming complex and the surrounding area included in a related development project to the state. This will serve the smooth organisation of the Water Aquatics Championships Budapest is hosting in 2017, he said.
