EU-W Balkans summit in Sofia – Orbán meets conservative party leaders
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has discussed topical European affairs at bilateral talks with leaders of three conservative parties that are members of the European People’s Party (EPP) together with his Fidesz party, Orban’s spokesman said on Wednesday.
Orbán, who is in Sofia to attend an EU-Western Balkan summit, met the politicians after a meeting of the EPP.
Orbán held talks with Silvio Berlusconi, the former Italian prime minister and leader of the Forza Italia Party, an “old-time friend and supporter of Fidesz”,
Bertalan Havasi told MTI.
The prime minister also held talks with Sybrand van Haersma Buma, the leader and MEP of the Dutch Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), to conclude that they share views on basic social values and challenges facing the EU including migration.
They agreed that Europe’s future lies in preserving the continent’s Christian culture.
Orbán also met Hristijan Mickoski, the leader of Macedonia’s VMRO-DPMNE party, to discuss the European integration of the western Balkans. Orbán reaffirmed that Hungary supports Macedonia’s soonest possible accession to the EU.
