Government to raise early-career doctor salaries from Jan 2016
Budapest (MTI) – The wages of doctors at the early stages of their careers will be raised from January next year to come to about 270,000 forints (EUR 870) net a month, the health-care state secretary said on Thursday.
After taking their specialty certification exams, doctors no longer receive a scholarship and this reduces their earnings, Gabor Zombor told public news channel M1. Under a new decree, doctors with a specialisation will receive a monthly 151,000 forint supplement to their wages for at least five years, he said. Teachers who supervise young doctors during their medical residencies will also receive an extra 50,000 forints a month, he said.
As of July the state will take over from hospitals all costs of training resident doctors, which amounts to about 4 billion forints a year, Zombor said. Hospitals will be able to use these savings for other purposes, for instance to hike pay, he added.
