WHO: Hungarian quality of health improving
Budapest (MTI) – The quality of health of Hungarians is constantly improving, the World Health Organisation’s regional director for Europe told daily Napi Gazdasag on Saturday.
Life expectancy in Hungary, currently at 75.8 years, is on the rise, adding that there is still much to be done for the country to close the gap to the European average, Zsuzsanna Jakab said.
She stressed the importance of preventing early death and called for stronger action against alcohol consumption across Europe.
Jakab noted that health-care spending has been on an upward trend in the European Union, and went from an average of 12.3 percent share in public finances to 13.7 percent between 2000 and 2013. Health-care spending makes up less than 10 percent of the budget in Hungary, she said.
