Budapest downtown district to ban Segways, other e-vehicles from pavements
Segways, electric bikes, e-scooters and the like, as well as “beer bikes” will be banned from pedestrian zones owned by Budapest’s 5th district council from mid-June.
Lots of complaints have been made in downtown Budapest about hazardous devices that whizz along the pavements almost silently, the local council said in a statement on Tuesday.
Beer bikes are unsuitable for pedestrian areas due to their size, it added.
Users will have to pick their e-bikes and scooters up in pedestrian areas and parks or pay an on-the-spot fine of 50,000 forints (EUR 155), or 150,000 forints if settled at a later date.
Firms renting out the vehicles will be obliged to inform customers of the ban.
As we wrote yesterday, CNN Travel recently published an article, written by Pavlo Fedykovych, about 9 hidden places in Budapest that are worth discovering if you are visiting the Hungarian capital. The author claims that these hidden spots are the places that really show the true character of Budapest. Read more HERE.
