Hungary economy successful in switching to digital age, says foreign minister in Stuttgart
Hungary has been successful in transforming its economy to adapt to the digital age, the foreign minister said after talks in Stuttgart on Wednesday.
“A measure of Hungary’s success is that flagship digital multinationals have decided, one after the other, to bring new investment projects to the country,” Péter Szijjártó told MTI by phone, referring to investments by Bosch, Mercedes-Benz and SAP.
Mercedes-Benz, a leader in the digital revolution, is building its second plant in Hungary. “This will be one of the company’s most innovative plants,” he said.
Bosch and component maker ZF are also in the process of launching engineering investment projects, preparing the ground for technologies to be applied in the electro-mobility sector, including the manufacture of self-driving cars, the minister added.
Szijjártó said he had received reassurance in Stuttgart that further investments in Hungary were in the pipeline thanks to an “especially favourable” investment climate.
Szijjártó had talks with Winfried Kretschmann, minister-president of Baden-Wuerttemberg, at which both parties spoke highly of bilateral economic and educational cooperation. Szijjártó noted that the government of Baden-Wuerttemberg was a major financer of Budapest’s German-language Andrássy University.
At the meeting, Szijjártó received an invitation to pay an official visit to Baden-Wuerttemberg. The agenda for those talks, set for October, will include a detailed discussion of political ties, Szijjártó added.
