According to propeller.hu, the Hungarian nature photographer Zsolt Kudich’s photo was declared the best nature photo 2015 by the jury of Big Picture competition organized by one of the world’s largest museum of natural history, the California Academy of Sciences.
More than six thousand photos of 69 countries were nominated for the contest of the renowned academic institute. The award-winning recordings present the rich and diverse flora and fauna of our planet, inspiring us to protect the Earth and pursuing the sustainability of our environment – the press release told MTI.
The photo of the photographer from Budapest, which is called the Flying Egrets, was made in the Gemenc Forest and it represents a group of great egrets. The president of the jury consisting international experts, Suzi Eszerhas said, the Hungarian photographer’s work is “like a painting, cozy and elegant, it is simply beautiful”.
In addition to the Grand Prix, award sere handed out in another 6 categories, and the young photographers got a special recognition. Member of the jury was Art Wolfe, one of the world’s best-known nature photographer; Sophie Stafford, international image editor of BBC and Kathy Moran, nature photographer of National Geographic as well.
The awrd-winning photo of Zsolt Kudich is part of a photo series presenting the national parks at the Danube and was jointly made with Reka Zsirmon. The project documented the natural resources of the last remaining natural floodplains, river sections and areas along the river of the Danube with the professional help of the national parks of 8 countries.
From the most successful photos of the Big Prize, which was organized for the second time, has a total remuneration of USD 10 000 (HUF 2.85 million), there will be an exhibition in the San Francisco-based institution from July 31.
