International Roma youth meeting starts in European Youth Capital Cluj
Budapest (MTI) – An international Roma youth meeting started on Sunday in framework of the European Youth Forum in Cluj-Napoca, in north-western Romania, the European Youth Capital in 2015, a Budapest-based organisation said on Sunday.
The Phiren Amenca organisation, a network of Roma and non-Roma volunteers and voluntary service organisations deemed it important to organise a series of programmes focusing on the Roma, its Hungarian coordinator told MTI.
There will be 350 Roma and non-Roma youth taking part at the week-long meeting from Romania, Slovakia, Austria, Spain, Slovenia, Greece, as well as 100 from Hungary, Marietta Herfort said.
Programmes include thematic workshops addressing Roma history, human rights, theatre and music among others and concerts closing the meeting on July 18, she said.
The aim of the meeting is to raise a voice against racism and discrimination targeting the Roma, she added.
Phiren Amenca’s mission is to create opportunities for non-formal education, dialogue and engagement, in order to challenge stereotypes and racism, according to the organisation’s website.
