Hungarian ambassador summoned to Ukraine’s foreign ministry
Kiev (MTI) – The Hungarian Ambassador to Ukraine Erno Keskeny was summoned to Ukraine’s foreign ministry on Monday in the wake of recent remarks in Hungary concerning the activities of the Hungarian secret services in Ukraine.
The ministry said on its website that First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Natalia Halibarenko expressed concerns about the remarks made according to the minutes taken at the national security committee meeting and published on the Hungarian parliament’s website.
The ministry said government office chief Janos Lazar had made some unprecedented remarks about the activities of the Hungarian secret services on Ukraine’s territory ever since Ukraine became an independent nation.
Halibarenko called it unacceptable that the Hungarian secret services operated in Ukraine without informing the Ukrainian services in advance.
She rejected the Hungarian criticism that the Ukrainian foreign ministry failed to provide sufficient help fo ethnic Hungarians in western Ukraine.
