Health inspection conducted at Szeged railway station

Budapest, July 30 (MTI) – A public health inspection carried out at and around the railway station in Szeged, southern Hungary, found no problems, the Csongrad County chief medical officer said on Thursday.

Tunde Bosnyakovits said the inspection was conducted after illegal migrants were taken to hospital on Tuesday from Budapest’s Nyugati railway station with symptoms of digestive infections and because approximately 700-800 migrants travel by train from Szeged to Budapest a day.

The inspection found that hygienic conditions just outside the station, where volunteer are helping migrants, were adequate, the medical officer said, adding that the workers’ wooden cabins and refigerators were clean. Bosnyakovits said the food given to the migrants would also be inspected.

State-owned railway company MAV said carriages regularly travelling to Budapest would be disinfected.

Bosnyakovits said it was clear that the infection seen in Budapest has not shown up in Szeged, adding that both the railway company and the volunteer workers were constantly taking infection prevention measures.
