Bailiffs, with law degrees, take oaths in Hungary
Thirty Hungarians have taken their oaths as bailiffs in recent days, replacing about the same number of bailiffs who lost their licenses early in the year for failure to comply with stricter professional requirements, daily Magyar Idők said on Thursday.
Bailiffs in Hungary without a law degree had until the end of last year to enroll in law school or lose their licence.
György Schadl, who heads the Official Receiver Office of the Hungarian Court, said the practice of allowing Hungarians without a law degree to work as bailiffs was a remnant from an earlier time.
About 200 bailiffs now work in Hungary, and another 20 are expected to join their ranks soon, he said.
Schadl said his office had sent recommendations to the government on proposed changes to legislation on receivership that would make the process faster, simpler and more transparent.
