Orban handed over FINA flag at World Championship closing event
Kazan (MTI) – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was handed over the flag of the international swimming federation FINA at the closing event of the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan in Russia, late on Sunday.
Orban, representing Hungary as the host country of the next aquatics championships in 2017, praised the work of the event’s organisers in his speech.
“According to the medal table, Russia earned nine gold medals but in fact there must be ten of them because the Republic of Tatarstan and Kazan deserve one more medal for the organisation of the 16th FINA World Championships. You’ve set the bar very high,” Orban said.
“We will do everything possible to host the competitions to the highest standard in Budapest. I hope that after staging the championships in Budapest, we will be as proud and content as you right now when we will be handing the FINA Flag over to the next host city. See you all in Budapest in 2017!”, he added.
Hungary was originally going to host the 2021 event but Guadalajara in Mexico has withdrawn from hosting the 2017 championships and Hungary took over in March this year.
