Hungarian, Turkish brain scientists join forces to study Alzheimer’s
Budapest, August 11 (MTI) – A Hungarian and Turkish team of brain scientists have launched a joint research programme focusing on Alzheimer’s disease, a neurobiologist at the co-partnering Pecs University’s research centre said.
This is the first time that Hungarian-Turkish brain research is being carried out in cooperation with a research centre at Istambul Kultur University, Istvan Hernadi told a press conference in Pecs on Tuesday. The two teams are looking into the background of neuro-degenerative diseases, he said.
The Turkish team has several decades of expertise in the clinical research of Alzheimer’s disease, while the Hungarian university excels in basic research and pre-clinical study, he said.
The programme is scheduled to span 3-5 years and the teams plan to apply for funding from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and other sources, Hernadi said.
