The Hungarian chef who made Putin’s breakfast

Zoom.hu wrote about Budapest KIOSK’s chef Gábor Orosz, who knows a lot about international gastronomy. No wonder that he had Rihanna and Lana Del Rey feeling rapture while they were eating the chef’s delicious dish. But his favourites remain simple traditional Hungarian dishes like the stuffed paprika and the poppy seed bread. Apart from many others, he did not learn the first steps of cooking from his grandmother, but his father.

He immediately fell in love with cooking from the very first moment he started to help his father in the kitchen. At Gábor’s home, it was a daily activity that the whole family cooked something together. He remembers that he was able to make his first dish (a Hungarian stew: “pörkölt”) at that very young age already. Of course, just a very small portion.

His favourite dishes are traditional Hungarian ones like stuffed paprika, poppy seed bread and Gödöllő chicken. The poppy seed bread can also be ordered at the Budapest KIOSK, although it has some special features inspired by a trip to Spain.

As Gábor is an important member of the restaurant, he does not have too much time to cook something extraordinary at home on the weekdays. At the weekend, when he invites some friends or family members, he always makes something special. Usually, people ask him to cook Italian pasta and recently challenged him to make the dough for the pasta at home instead of buying it.
