Hungarian government offers help to Turkey’s judicial reform

Hungary is ready to provide Turkey with all assistance to that country’s efforts to reform the rule of law and its judiciary, Justice Minister László Trócsányi told MTI after talks with his Turkish counterpart Abdulhamit Gul in Ankara on Thursday.

Hungary has the experience through which public trust in the judiciary could be strengthened, Trócsányi said, adding that

the government is also ready to share with Turkey its experience on the introduction of new court procedures.

The Turkish judicial reform is aimed at making procedures shorter and more effective, digitisation, as well as promoting mediation rather than filing suits, Trócsányi said.

The Turkish justice minister welcomed the Hungarian offer and expressed his wish to visit Budapest next spring.

Trócsányi also said that his government would submit to the Hungarian parliament its draft concerning public administration courts on Tuesday. He noted that Turkey’s public administration courts operate separately from ordinary law courts, and called them a “value added strengthening the rule of law”.

Parties at the talks discussed migration and terrorism, and concluded that fighting terrorism was a shared interest of Europe and Turkey.

Earlier in the day, Trócsányi had talks with Zuhtu Arslan, head of the Turkish constitutional court.
