Budapest, September 4 (MTI) – Several hundred migrants set off on Friday afternoon from Budapest’s Keleti station westward with the intention, they said, of going to Germany, MTI’s correspondent at the site reported.

The migrants progressed along the main Rakoczi thoroughfare on the pavement and the edge of the road in the direction of Blaha Lujza Square.

Several children being carried on their fathers’ shoulders held up pictures of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Police were escorting them to ensure they proceeded along the side of the road and on the pavement as they walked across Elisabeth bridge.

National police spokesperson Viktoria Csiszer-Kovacs, without elaborating, told a press conference that police were monitoring the migrants and would take every necessary measure.
