Unpackaged shop to open in Budaörs
The first shop to sell unpackaged goods in Hungary will open in late September-early October, writes penzcentrum.hu. According to Márk Monostori-Kalovits, owner of noPack, they have already worked out the contracts with the suppliers, and the shop, which is located in Budaörs, will be unique not only in Hungary, but in Central-Europe as well.
Italy, France and Great-Britain already have similar shops, where customers have to bring their own vessels, baskets, and bottles; everything can be measured out, and there’s no need for extra packaging. Customers will also be able to by the necessary containers in the shop (mainly made out of glass). noPack will sell vegetables, fruits, pasta, spices, honey, jam, pastry, and cosmetics.
Monostori-Kalovits mainly chose family suppliers who sell organic food and goods, and are close to Budaörs. He’s also planning to expand his shop into a franchise; they are currently negotiating with 10 different partners who would open noPacks in Budapest, Szeged, Debrecen, and Pécs.
According to Tetra Pak’s survey, Hungarian consumers have little information about packaging and its role in preserving the products’ quality. In the case of liquid goods, 17% pays attention to buy reclosable containers, but most of them has almost no information about the type of package they are using. When asked where they are likely to store their liquid goods, 36% of the respondents said tetra pak packaging, and 46% chose glass bottles. The least favourable material was plastic bottles, and cans.
