Wow! Record amount of films shot in Hungary in 2018
In the third consecutive year, more than 350 million USD was spent on film shooting in Hungary. Foreign productions spent eighty-four per cent of this amount according to the National Media and Communications Authority’s information.
In 2018, an overall 333 films were registered in Hungary, 245 of this were Hungarian, and 84 films were foreign productions. Thirty more Hungarian films were shot in the country than in 2017, and twenty more foreign films were made than in the previous year.
This was written on National Media and Communications Authority’s site, which also reports that the new Terminator film had the biggest budget with 16.9 billion dollars, while the second was Red Sparrow with 11.3 billion USD.
Overall spending in 2018 surpassed 350 million US dollars, too:
In 2016, the amount spent in the film industry was 4.47 million dollars. In 2017, 3.86 million dollars, and last year it was 3.93 million dollars.

Even more films are expected because of the government’s new tax benefits, which was raised from 25 per cent to 30 per cent.
The new film Dune will be shooted in Hungary, too, with actors like Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin or Stellan Skarsgård.
