More, than coffee –Impressive cafés in Budapest
A café is not simply a place where you can drink a hot beverage; Budapest offers you way more than that.
Görbe Bögre Kávézó
Görbe Bögre has just opened earlier this summer in District Eight’s Palotanegyed. This café has countless puzzles and board games, so no one will be bored while drinking their morning coffee.
The café is managed by two young women: Petra Dobner used to work at the Centre of Scientific Wonders, so she definitely has experience in mysterious games, and her sister-in-law, Emese Dobnerné Kocsi, came home from the United States just to work on the project.
From October they open early in the morning and customers can choose from the countless cakes and cookies besides the delicious coffees. Görbe Bögre has its own Nutella shake, and everything is made on the spot, from the bacon and cottage cheese pie to the mascarpone and poppy seed cake.
Thanks to the spacious conference room, the café gives place to many events, and the next one (Family Day) is coming up in October. There will be puppet shows, mechanical puzzles, and traditional dances.

Mesterbike + Coffee Project
This coffee shop is a paradise for bicycle lovers. It’s just opened at the beginning of 2015, and they not only repair your bike, but you can grab a nice cup of coffee while waiting.
“It’s basically a bike shop where it’s great to have some coffee” – the owner, András Szép said.
All sorts of people are coming here no matter their age. While someone’s bike is being repaired, they can watch it from the bar. Naturally, you can buy bicycles and accessories in the shop, and the milk for the coffee comes from a family farm. The type of coffees they make is changing from month to month, so no matter when you visit them their always be something new. Mesterbike is also planning to make their own collection of jerseys, socks, bags and mugs.

Catcafé
The Budapest Catcafé is the second café in Europe where you can pat cats while drinking.
There are four beautiful, purebred cats in the café, who will not rest until they get all the attention from the customers. They also live there, in the back of the shop. The owners, Réka Paulovkin-Orosz and her husband, András Paulovkin dreamt of a kind of a living room where you feel like you’re visiting your grandma, hence the huge couch and the cats.
There’s only an entry fee, because Catcafé is an all you can eat and drink shop: let it be coffee, tea, cookies, juices, beer, or a glass of wine. It’s great for those who like staying longer, either to have a friendly chat or to do some homework. If asked nicely, Réka will even draw a cat shape on cop of your coffee.
