Massive bike march happening on Sunday – half of Budapest will be closed to traffic
A massive bike march is happening this Sunday in the capital. Join the people who are fighting for a more bike-friendly Budapest. If you want to drive around the city that day, you should be prepared for serious traffic regulations and closed areas.
I bike Budapest
I Bike Budapest is a spring march and movement organised by Magyar Kerékpárosklub [Hungarian Bike Club] in order to create a more bike-friendly Budapest. The bikers will march through the city all united as one to raise awareness to the fact that there is still a lot to do to make Budapest a bike-friendly capital. Several programs will be organised bot hat the beginning of the route (Margaret Island) and at the end of the route (Budapest City Park); including music, picnic, bike lifting, etc.

Organisers of the event, Kerékpárosklub collected their „demands” in 12 points. They recommend several developments that could be done in Budapest in order to make it a much more bike-friendly city. Check out the official Facebook event here.
Traffic regulation
Roadblocks all over Budapest are expected due to the bike march happening on Sunday, Index reports. Therefore, traffic will be heavily regulated, and you might need to re-calculate your routes. Be prepared!
Traffic regulation can be expected in the following districts: I., II., III., V., VI., IX., XI., XIII. and XIV.
Many major checkpoints of the city will be periodically closed to traffic, including Árpád Bridge, Margaret Bridge, Petőfi Bridge, and Heroes’ Square.

Parking will be prohibited until 9 p.m. on Sunday in District VI. and XIV., on Konrad Adenauer road, and in the area between Kós Károly Boulevard and Zichy Mihály Road, on the service route of Andrássy Road, and between Oktogon and Eötvös street.
The cyclists will follow a pre-determined route across town. Their route will go along the following areas, which will be periodically closed to traffic on Sunday:
- Central road on Margaret Island
- Árpád Bridge
- Spring Street
- Road of Prince Árpád
- Üstökös street exit
- The north side of Margaret Bridge
- Jászai Mari Square
- Lower Pest Quay
- Közraktár Street
- North side of Petőfi Bridge
- Goldmann György Square exit and Bertalan Lajos street exit
- Lower Buda Quay
- Döbrentei Square
- Attila Road
- the Tunnel
- Clark Ádám Square
- Chain Bridge
- Széchenyi Square
- József Attila Street
- Deák Square
- Andrássy Road
- Heroes’ Square
- Kós Charles Boulevard
- Konrad Adenauer Road
- Olof Palme Promenade
- Zichy Mihály Road
