Women’s Under 17 team qualify for EURO Elite Round
According to Hungarian Football Federation, Hungary Women’s Under 17s have joined their Under 19 team in qualifying for the Elite Round stage of their age group’s UEFA European Championship tournament by finishing second in their four-team group in Bük this week.
Hungary’s most crucial group match was their first one against Wales which they won 2-1, Adrienn Oláh’s first-half brace meaning that Chloe Chivers’ second-half goal for Wales was ultimately academic. Dorottya Schumi’s side followed up that hard-earned victory with a three-goal defeat of Israel courtesy of Eszter Csigi, an own goal and a close-range finish from Brigitta Pulins following Anna Csiki’s clever pass. With two victories in the group phase, Hungary had already secured a path to the Elite Round before their final fixture with gropu leaders Denmark which they lost narrowly 1-0, an early free-kick from Danish captain Melinda Gejl proving the difference between the two teams at the end.
Denmark therefore won the group overall with three wins from three, Hungary finishing runners-up on six points with Wales in third on three and Israel in fourth with no points. The Elite Round will take place in March 2016 with the tournament finals scheduled for May 2016 in Belarus.
