Parliamentary speaker holds talks with Chilean lower house president
Budapest, October 29 (MTI) – Parliamentary Speaker Laszlo Kover held talks with Marco Antonio Nunez Lozano, the president of the lower house of the National Congress of Chile, in Hungarian Parliament on Thursday.
Kover told a press conference after the talks that despite the huge geographic distance there are similarities in their countries’ history and in their development.
It took Hungary 20-21 years to adopt a new basic law after a transition to democracy, Kover said, adding that Chile would draft a new, modern democratic constitution soon.
He said the Hungarian community in Chile serves as a bridge between the two remote countries.
Nunez Lozano drew a parallel between Chile and Hungary pointing out successful transition from an authoritarian regime to democracy in both countries.
Chile puts great emphasis on building relations with Europe, and within there Hungary with which country it wants to intensify economic ties.
After the talks Kover presented Parliament’s Golden Memorial Coin to Nunez Lozano in recognition of his achievements in developing Hungarian-Chilean ties.
