No. of people using Hungarian railway for international travel increases
The numbers show that more and more people chose the Hungarian Railway Company, MÁV to reach their desired international destination. Among the most popular destinations are Austria, Germany, and Romania.
Hvg reports that 1.5 million people used the international trains of Hungarian railway company MÁV-Start in the first two quarters of 2019. This is a 6% increase compared to the numbers from the same time in 2018. These routes brought a profit of approximately 15 million Euros, which is a 10% increase since last year.
The most popular destination from Hungary is definitely Austria. So far this year, over 614,000 passengers have travelled to Austria from Hungary by train.
An increasing number of people are travelling from Hungary to Romania, especially with the route that goes through Transylvania (120,000 passengers). Germany is also a popular destination, as there is a 13% increase in the No. of people travelling to Germany by MÁV. The most popular destination that required an overnight stay on the train was Zurich. 26,000 people travelled in sleeping carriages, 57,000 people travelled with wagons with beds.
Do not forget that the SEA←YOU trains are running only 7 September, so make the most out of it. It is a cheap way to get directly to the sea from Budapest.

Double decker trains are coming to Hungary
MÁV ordered twenty double-decker electric trains from Swiss manufacturer; Stadler Bussnang AG, which are scheduled to commence operating in February 2020. The double decker trains will be equipped with an up-to-date travel information system, air conditioners, wifi, modern video surveillance system, and accessible toilets. The trains will also be able to transport four wheelchairs, 12 bikes and five strollers comfortably.
