Government to encourage use of electric cars
Budapest (MTI) – The government wants to encourage as many people as possible to use electric cars in Hungary as well as introduce incentives for the car manufacturing industry to shift towards electric cars, Economy Minister Mihaly Varga said in Budapest on Saturday.
Speaking at a press conference held on the occasion of the conference and family day “‘Electromobility on a new road in the European Union”, to be held next week, the minister said that in addition to conventional automotive investments, the government also wants to give a boost to economic growth through developments related to electric cars and charging stations including the establishment of a supplier industry.    Varga said the government plans to introduce incentives such as the right to use the bus lane as well as refunds and tax benefits to encourage people to use electric cars. A system of green number plates has also been launched, with almost 100 cars already bearing such number plates on the roads, he added.    The minister said he trusts that the number of public electric charging stations will reach 150 in Hungary by the end.
