Construction of the new Tisza Bridge is almost ready! – PHOTOS

A new cycle track is being built between Poroszló and Tiszafüred. The last piece of the 273m-long Tisza Bridge has just been installed. The aim of this project is for people to be able to cycle around Lake Tisza once construction is finished.

Lake Tisza is the largest artificial lake in Hungary. It is located at the South-Eastern edge of Heves county. The lake is 27 km in length, with an average depth of 1.3 m and a maximum depth of 17 m.

When the most recent construction works are finished, the entire cycle track around Lake Tisza will be 65 km long, Magyar Építők writes.

Hódút Ltd. is responsible for the construction of the newest addition to the cycle track. The newest bike trail will be 6.5 km long, and it will start at the dam of Lake Tisza in Poroszló and end in Ady Endre and Ártéri Streets in Tiszafüred.

The construction of the bridge is very complex, as it has a 350-tonne steel structure that was assembled on the riverside assembly site. The bridge’s elements are floated into position by two 40-meter barges, and each is lifted onto the console structures by cranes. It took two cranes and over one hour to position the last piece of the new bike bridge into its final place.

What comes next? Once all the pieces of the bridge are together, there are still a few things to be done, including corrosion protection, the construction of dilatations, the installation of handrails, and the application of the final covering layer.

The Tisza Lake section of the bicycle path crosses the Eger and Szomorka streams. In order to cross the streams, a 308-meter-long and an 86-meter-long bicycle bridge are built, which will be separate from the main road. The bike path also crosses the Tisza Rinse Canal.
