Poet Ferenc Juhasz dies aged 87

Budapest, December 3 (MTI) – Hungarian poet Ferenc Juhasz died on Wednesday aged 87, his daughter, Anna Juhasz, told MTI.

Juhasz was born in Bia, then a village 25 km west of Budapest, in 1928. He went to trade school in Budapest then enrolled in a Sanskrit-Hungarian language university programme in 1946. He was editor of several literary journals and received the Kossuth prize for his famous poem “My father” in 1951. He was again awarded with the Kossuth prize in 1973.

Juhasz’s poetry has been translated into English, German, Finnish, Swedish, Italian, French, Bulgarian and Hebrew. He received the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, Middle Cross, and was included among the Artists of the Nation last year.
