Budapest is one of the most creative cities in the world
Szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu writes that UNESCO chose Budapest to be part of the most creative cities in the world. Budapest is now part of the Creative Cities Network. Also, it is the first capital city of Middle-Europe to win the ‘City of Design’ title.
“Budapest is one of the most exciting cities of the world. It is the stage of the ideal combination of innovation, constant development, multi-coloured culture and a dynamically developing economy” said Alexandra Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Deputy Mayor. The Design Terminal prepared the winner application with the support of the local government. Budapest became the ‘City of Design’ alongside cities like Melbourne, Shanghai and Berlin.
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) was created in 2004 to promote cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. The 69 cities which currently make up this network work together towards a common objective: placing creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their development plans at the local level and cooperating actively at the international level.
“UNESCO’s choice is an important feedback that confirms Budapest’s position as the intersection of creative industry in the region” said Gergely Böszörményi-Nagy, the director of Design Terminal.
