Tips for winter in Hungary

Change language:
We might have started a new year, but there are still two months left of winter. Here is our guide on what to expect and how to navigate the frosty weather, along with a couple of activities to do.
Popular Hungarian vlogger Csaba Magyarósi posted a video on his YouTube channel two months ago about how to drive on slippery roads, and he was accompanied by young Hungarian race driver Vivien Keszthelyi.
Vivien is one of the youngest female Hungarian race drivers, and she was kind enough to take Csaba on a training track to demonstrate what to do and what not to do on the road in harsh winter conditions.
Firstly, having the right tyres is the most important. Summer tyres will not do in winter conditions and can be very dangerous to everyone on the road.
Vivien also explains that how to react when the car starts sliding on the road depends on whether the car is a front, a rear, or an all-wheel drive. With front-wheel cars, you have to accelerate a bit and not be afraid to let go of the brake pedal. With all-wheel drives, you have to counter-steer and accelerate a bit as well, while with rear-wheel ones, you also have to counter-steer, but do not accelerate, as it will make the car even more unstable.
Now that we know how to drive safely and what to do in case our cars start slipping, here are some activities you might want to try out.
