A bucket list contains things that someone doesn’t want to miss out on. Things that she inevitably wants to do or places that she definitely wants to visit. Szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu put together a subjective list of beautiful Hungarian regions. There are so many stunning places in Hungary that it would be hard to pick just 10, but these are places that would be a pity not to visit.
The monadnocks of Balaton Uplands
If you have ever been to Balaton Uplands you’ll never forget the beautiful mountains of the Tapolca Basin. With Lake Balaton in the background, the landscape is perfect. The monadnocks include Badacsony, Saint George Mountain, Csobánc, Gulács, Tóti Mountain, Haláp, Somló Mountain, Kis-Somló and Ság Mountain. They guard the memory of an intensive volcanic action in the depth of the Pannonian Sea.
Tapolca Lake Cave
A tortuous cave system is hiding under the streets and houses of Tapolca, a little town not far from Balaton. It is the only cave where visitors can make a unique boat trip on the lit, bluish water of the underground lake. It is a unique experience!
The lavender fields of Tihany
According to szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu, the lavender coloured landscape is so whimsical like you’re walking in a fairy tale. The lavender fields of Tihany became the symbol of the peninsula. The lavender’s essential oil intension here is higher than in France, where it originates from. Also, taking pictures there is especially joyful.
Szalajka valley
It was not an accident but the attraction of the Veil Waterfall that has made Szilvásvárad and its surroundings one of the country’s most popular hiking destinations. It is a natural treasure. The calc-tuff, crusted from the water of caste springs, forms a ladder-like formation and the veil-like water pouring down on it is a breath-taking sight.
Hegyestű Geological Site, Monoszló
The partly quarried cone of the basalt volcano provides a particular view not only from far away, but it is amazing from a short distance, too. The material of the now strictly protected wall of basalt columns was once quarried by hand. Hegyestű is the ‘keeper’ of the gate of the Káli-basin and it can be found between Zánka and Monoszló reaching as high as 337 metres.
