Snow causes disruptions throughout Hungary – Snowy pictures
Budapest, January 4 (MTI) – Snow caused disruptions throughout Hungary on Monday. Road accidents were many and trains were delayed, though no flight cancellations were reported from Budapest’s international Liszt Ferenc airport.
Runways at the airport are being continually cleared of snow and only minor departure delays are expected due to time taken to defrost aircraft, Budapest Airport spokesman Mihaly Hardy said.
State railways MAV said delays of 40 to 80 minutes were caused mostly by faulty switches.
The national police headquarters warned drivers of slippery roads and asked them to reduce speed and make sure they have enough petrol in their vehicles.
The national weather service issued a warning for eight counties in western Hungary. Heavy snowfall is expected to spread to eastern Hungary later in the day. Temperatures will drop to between -4 and -11 C. on Monday night.
