Hungarian ChristDems welcome Croatian referendum against gay marriage

Budapest, December 3 (MTI) – Hungary’s co-ruling Christian Democrats (KDNP) have welcomed the result of a referendum in Croatia under which the Croatian constitution will define marriage as the community of a man and a woman.

KDNP welcomes that Croatian voters have supported the institution of marriage “in the Christian sense” and sees it as a victory of European Christian values, according to a statement sent to MTI.

In terms of Europe’s future it is promising that 750,000 Croatians out of a total population of 4.2 million supported the signature drive aimed at the referendum, the statement said.

Croatia has proved that for Europe “the value of family and partnership based on the order of nature” is still important, the statement said, adding that Croatian law ensured equal rights to people living in same-sex partnerships as to their straight peers.
