Hungarians returning from cruise ship symptom-free
The three Hungarian citizens who have flown home after staying on a Dutch cruise ship that recently docked in Cambodia and have been placed in quarantine are symptom-free, the interior ministry said on Tuesday, citing information from Budapest’s St. László Hospital.
The operative board set up to coordinate preventive measures against coronavirus is constantly monitoring the incoming data on the disease and currently sees no reason for any intervention, the ministry said in a statement.
Foreign ministry state secretary Tamás Menczer told a press conference
earlier in the day that Hungarian authorities have received no reports of any Hungarians affected by coronavirus either in Hungary or abroad.
Menczer said the authorities had established contact with the third Hungarian national who had been onboard the Dutch cruise ship earlier on Tuesday. Hungarian officials had thought the Hungarian citizen, who had been a member of the ship’s crew, was still on the vessel. However, it later became clear that they, too, had returned to Hungary, he added.
Menczer noted that the ship docked in Cambodia last week after several other countries denied it port fearing coronavirus.
After testing negative for the virus, the ship’s passengers were allowed to travel home, he said. However, one passenger aboard the ship, an 83-year-old American national, was later diagnosed with coronavirus at the Kuala Lumpur airport, Menczer added.
CecÃlia Müller, Hungary’s chief medical officer, said a list has been prepared of all the individuals whom the three Hungarians may have come into contact with.
