Hungarian government presents new wine regulations to favor producers

The Hungarian government presented a new set of winemaking regulations aimed at favoring the producers, a State Secretary from the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture said here on Friday.

“The new regime of wine regulations will provide producers with a predictable and supportive environment to work on their most important task: the creation of good wine,” Zsolt Feldman, the State Secretary in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development said at the eighth Wine Conference in the Hungarian capital.

According to Feldman, the wine market and the technological developments have seen deep and fast developments, and the new wine regulations provide better conditions for sales and reduces the administrative burden of the producers.

Current regulations became obsolete due to the development of the last two decades, Feldman explained.

“The new regulation is based on the replacement of paper-based administration in the wine sector with an electronic system that enables faster and more efficient data management,”

Feldman underlined. “This would be complemented by the reform of the control system, the simplification of the marketing of wines and the introduction of two new categories of origin protection,” he added.

The planned changes can reduce administrative time by up to 90 percent, improve efficiency of controls and contribute to improving the quality of Hungarian wines, according to Feldman.
